Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Do you struggle to handle stress in your life?
  • Do your emotions take over and control you?
  • Do you have a difficult time being in the present moment? Always worrying about the past or future?
  • Do you find yourself having a hard time communicating effectively with others in your life about your needs?

If you answered "YES" to any of the above questions, DBT is the answer for you. Not only does it teach you skills to manage the above difficulties, but it helps you to REGAIN CONTROL OF YOURSELF AND YOUR LIFE.

I have personally seen DBT help COUNTLESS individuals in their lives. People have said that it forever changed their life, it is the best money they have ever spent, and they have learned skills that they will take with them for the rest of their lives.

DBT is covered over a period of 12 weeks. You have the option to meet with me weekly for 45 minutes (with the option of setting up longer sessions if you prefer) where you will be introduced to skills each week. You will be asked to practice skills as homework throughout the week and discuss what skills you are using weekly, with the use of a diary card.

You can choose to attend weekly or how ever often you are able. I recommend doing the full 12 weeks, but you will not be required to do all 12 sessions.

  • 45 minute DBT session-$65
  • 60 minute DBT session-$80
  • Two people for 60 minutes-$40 per person

Primary Skills Taught:

  • Mindfulness: the practice of being fully aware and present in this one moment
  • Distress Tolerance: how to tolerate pain in difficult situations, not change it
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: how to ask for what you want and say no while maintaining self-respect and relationships with others
  • Emotion Regulation: how to improve ability to regulate, process and manage emotions.

What does "dialectical" mean?

The term "dialectical" is an integration of opposites. It teaches us ways to see situations differently than we have in the past. It shows us that how we have responded in the past to situations in our life is not the only way to respond or handle a situation. It teaches us to regain control of ourselves and our lives through the use of acceptance oriented skills and change oriented skills
